Online Casino Games - A brief insight into the popular casino games.
Blackjack
It is believed that playing cards, we have today, were originally invented in China and India
around 900 A.D. The typical 52 card deck used around the world was called the "French pack" (circa 1600's)
which was later embraced by the English and the Americans. It was around 1700 when Blackjack was believed
to have initiated in French casinos where it was called "vingt-et-un" (twenty-and-one). And the name
Blackjack was formed because if a player got the Jack of Spades and the Ace of Spades (Spades being black),
the player was additionally rewarded.
Roulette
Roulette, translated as "small wheel" is the most popular game of chance in Europe. A primitive version
of the game was produced by the French scientist, Blaise Pascal, and it was introduced in the 17th century.
Frenchmen Francis and Louis Blanc invented the single "0" roulette game in 1842, but because gambling was
illegal in France, the game was introduced in Hamburg, Germany, as a result of this the lavish and world
famous resort of Monte Carlo was developed.
Craps
Dice games have been played for over 2,000 years, which we know of. History buffs will remember Caesar
making his critical decision to send his army across the Rubicon on the roll of the dice. During the 18th
and 19th centuries the game in vogue was Hazard, which was then adopted by the French and renamed Craps.
The game then found its way all over the world, into riverboats and gambling hotspots of the new world,
where it was simplified into the version of Craps we know today.
Video Poker
Introduced in the 1970's, video poker is an increasing popular form of gambling. The game is played fast,
while involving a combination of skill and luck, video poker attracts players by providing hours of stimulating
entertainment. A video poker machine can be found in either tabletop or upright desktop unit. The majority of
the machines are based on the five card draw poker.
Slots
Commonly referred to as one-armed bandits, the goal of the game is to spin the reels so that the symbols
on all the reels line up on the payline in a winning combination. When this occurs the machine then pays out
according to the payoff table posted on the front of the machine. The payoff table tells the player what the
winning combinations of symbols are for that machine and what each combination pays out.
Keno
It is thought that ancient Chinese scrolls indicated that a game similar to Keno was introduced to China
around 200 B.C. by Cheung Leung of the Han Dynasty. The reason for the introduction was because Cheung's city
was at war for several years and he started running out of supplies and the citizens refused to contribute any
more therefore Cheung created a game of chance to produce revenue for his army. This game, a game of numbers
not unlike Keno, was an instant success and it played a great part in saving the city.
Baccarat
Baccarat dates back to the Middle Ages, it was said that the game was first played with a tarot deck of
cards. Evolutions of the game shows that it split to European and French, the latter goes by the name of
"chemin de fer". The Baccarat we know today originated from Great Britain and was then passed along South
America and then to Nevada. The infamous Dunes casino introduced baccarat in the late 50's, and since then
it has made its final migration onto the World Wide Web.
